BIOGRAPHY
Kay Houston is an engineer, a former technical salesperson, and the holder of both an M.B.A. and a J.D. She focuses her practice on patent and trademark prosecution and patent and trademark portfolio management.
Kay’s technical areas of expertise include electrical and mechanical devices and systems, including semiconductor processing, electronic circuits, telecommunications, communications, wireless technology, the Internet, voice over IP (Internet Protocol), and avionics. She also has prosecuted patents in areas as diverse as heart catheters, oil field equipment, exercise clothing, and chemical processes. She handles federal trademark registrations for both trade and service marks.
Kay’s substantial business background, which includes experience in sales, marketing, and financial analysis, allows her to understand the full range of business considerations that factor into a client’s intellectual property decisions. Using these insights in combination with her technical expertise, Kay is able to work closely with her clients to create customized intellectual property strategies that support both their business and technological objectives. Kay is also a co-inventor of three United States patents.
EDUCATION
Kay graduated with a degree in electrical engineering, cum laude, from Southern Methodist University. She also received an M.B.A. and J.D. from Southern Methodist University.

Kay is a member of the State Bar of Texas, the Dallas Bar Association, and the Dallas Women Lawyers Association. She is registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office.
